Moderating

Adventures in moderating

Every once in a while, we’ll get some real troublemaker in the #chris chat. Today was no exception. I was distracted at the time when one of our team pointed out this particular troublemaker to me. He was berating the host and calling the other people liars, well, not in my chat you don’t.

I engaged this person in a polite conversation using the “ask questions” technique. The target was now in sight. After a few lines, he stumbled and gave me enough reason to silence him with the +b ~q: ban.. I love that thing. He immediately PM’d me with this:

~ hey unsilence me you terrorist
~ ok kid. give me your address. we have some issues
blaster: I’m not a kid
~ then quit acting like one
~ and unsilence me. you f’n censoring terrorist. people like you. you iwll be first
~ if you dont like what i say, then dont read it freak
~ has quit IRC (User has been banned from WyldRyde (Harassment and threats against another chatter is not allowed, not even via a PM. If you feel this ban is in error you may appeal it at: http://www.wyldryde.org/bans/))

I win. Sometimes it’s like shooting fish in a barrel. They don’t know it’s a setup until it’s too late. Up until the threat, this person would have been given the chance to do the right thing. But now, that will not be happening.
